Ever pondered what the runner up in a 'Most boring, repetitive and dreaded activity' (the word 'drill' wins, hands down) could be? For me- and my students!- it would be revision- you can hear the moans and yawns already, right?
My recent revelation that helps to spice up revision with a pinch of competition and give testing a personal edge are friendly peer tests that can be used as vocabulary revision and a good old test replacement.
Have a look at this document peer test template, and use it next time you plan vocabulary revision.
It could be done individually, in pairs, or in groups- picture the level of competition when students design a test for the other group and what ambitious tasks they are likely to come up with to impress 'the enemy':)
Obviously, this formula can also be used with a unit test or grammar test/revision- feel free to modify and adjust the template, or better still- encourage the students to customize it. You go and enjoy your well-deserved break, while students revise, process and create:)
